Not much is known about the origin of the Spartanets series.
According to the Russian company 5.45 Design, they conducted an evaluation of Russian spec ops gear in 2012 and found it to be outdated. This prompted them to research foreign gear in order to develop new and more adequate solutions for the Russian special ops.[14] This could have led to the creation of the Spartanets helmet; if that is the case, this could be one of the earliest Russian FAST derivatives.
The earliest known appearance of the Spartanets is a Youtube video presentation from August 1, 2014.[15] In that video and other sources from the same year the helmet is presented as being manufactured by another company "VoenProm".[16][17] What is the relation between 5.45 Design and VoenProm remains unknown. As of 2023, the Spartanets brand is sold as a 5.45 Design product.[18][19]
In 2017, Spartanets was issued to the Russian FSB.[20] A video from the 2023 Ukrainian Offensive shows Russian soldiers filming a disabled Ukrainian Bradley vehicle wearing a Spartanets or a similar kind of helmet.[21]
