The Nachtsichtgerät 66 (Abbreviated: NSG66) was the night vision device used by the NVA.
Introduction[]
In 1966 the NVA introduced the night vision device 66 (NSG66), which was carried on vehicles. The device also included special interior fittings (hood) for the steel helmet 56.
This interior (hood) came in two colors (white + olive) and had a holder for the optics. The lens can be locked on a bracket attached to the hood via a conically offset axis. The wearer can adjust the height of the lens so that it sits well in front of the eyes and can be used optimally. Power is supplied via a high-voltage cable from the battery-operated device, which is worn on the body with a shoulder strap.
