Their most distinct features are the black cotton adjusting strap with cross bar buckle and the middle finger and ring finger stitches. The manufacturer and size markings are stamped inside along the "QM" contract number. The shell can be worn with or without the matching olive drab wool liners designated as "Gloves, Insert, Wool".

History[]

The Gloves, Shell, Leather were developed in 1944 and were manufactured by the Chicago based Joseph N. Eisendrath company. They were issued to the US Army in Italy in April 1944 and later in the European Theater of Operations. These gloves developed further into various derivatives which are collectively dubbed "D-3A", a designation which appears in Korean War documentation or "recon gloves" due to their use by special forces in the Vietnam War.
