The Cavalry Sports Helmet (Type F) is a helmet of Roman origin.[2][3][4][5]
Overview[]
The Cavalry Sports F type is characterized by its two piece construction. It has an Attic style bowl which is complemented by a face protection piece. The face mask is divided from the bowl along the line of the ears and across the top of the forehead. The central part of the face mask has opening for the eyes, nose and mouth. Some examples have covering for the face opening which depicts a stylized male face. The face cover can be attached to the face mask utilizing a turning pin, and possibly another one near the lips. The helmets are decorated with either embossed figures or stylized hair.
